Frequently Asked Questions

Do I need to be physically fit to do this hike?

A moderate level of fitness is recommended, as the hike reaches high altitudes. The trail itself is not overly steep, but the thin air at over 5,000 meters makes it more demanding. Horses are available for rent along the trail if needed.

What should I bring?

We recommend warm layered clothing, a waterproof jacket, hiking boots, hat, gloves, sunglasses, sunscreen, snacks, water, and trekking poles. Weather in the Andes can change quickly, so be prepared for sun, wind, and possible rain.

When is the best time to visit Rainbow Mountain?

The best time is during the dry season (April – October), when skies are clear and colors of the mountain are most vivid. The rainy season (November – March) has fewer crowds and lush landscapes but may bring more challenging weather.

Will altitude sickness be a problem?

Altitude can affect anyone. We recommend arriving in Cusco at least 2–3 days before the trek to acclimatize. Our team provides oxygen and first-aid if needed during the hike.
