A scenic and adventurous route to Machu Picchu
- Travel through the Sacred Valley of the Incas, passing by Urubamba and Ollantaytambo before climbing to the stunning Málaga Pass at 4,400 m.a.s.l.
- Admire breathtaking landscapes with views of snow-capped peaks like Verónica and Salkantay.
- Descend into the lush high jungle through towns such as Santa María and Santa Teresa.
- Walk for about 3 hours along the railway tracks from Hidroeléctrica to Aguas Calientes, enjoying first glimpses of Huayna Picchu and parts of the Machu Picchu citadel.
- On Day 2, explore Machu Picchu with a guided tour, covering its main sectors (urban, religious, agricultural), followed by free time to explore on your own.
- Return via the same route, with optional train service from Aguas Calientes to Hidroeléctrica (extra cost).
Itinerary
Day 1
Cusco – Hidroeléctrica – Aguas Calientes
Pick up from your hotel at 7:30 AM and travel through the Sacred Valley towards Ollantaytambo.
From there, continue ascending to the Málaga Pass (4,400 m.a.s.l.) where you can appreciate stunning views of the snow-capped peaks.
Descend into the lush high jungle through Santa María and Santa Teresa. Stop for lunch and refreshments before reaching Hidroeléctrica.
From Hidroeléctrica, begin a 3-hour trek along a flat path to Aguas Calientes (Machu Picchu Pueblo). Overnight in the selected hostel.
Day 2
Aguas Calientes – Machu Picchu – Hidroeléctrica – Cusco
Very early in the morning, choose between two ways to reach Machu Picchu:
- On foot: About 1.5 hours of steep ascent via the Inca Trail.
- By bus: A 30-minute ride (first bus at 5:30 AM).
Arrive in time to witness the sunrise over Machu Picchu, a unique and unforgettable spectacle.
Enjoy a 3-hour guided tour through the most important sectors, followed by 2–3 hours of free time to explore at your own pace.
Later, return to Hidroeléctrica by foot (or optional train at 1:00 PM, with an extra cost).
From Hidroeléctrica, our transport will bring you back to Cusco, arriving around 9:30 PM.
