Sacred Valley Full Day

The Sacred Valley of the Incas stretches between Pisac and Ollantaytambo, along the Vilcanota River.
It can be accessed from the city of Cusco. During this visit, you will explore several important
archaeological monuments from the Inca era, major rivers, and traditional Andean towns.
Since ancient times, the Incas valued this valley for its favorable geography and climate.
It was considered one of the main agricultural centers due to its fertile lands, where the best
corn in Peru is still cultivated today.

Itinerary

Day 1

Cusco – Pisac – Ollantaytambo – Chinchero

1. Pisac

Pisac (Quechua: P’isaq) is located in the district of the same name, in the province of Calca, 30 km from the city of Cusco. Its archaeological site is one of the most significant and most visited in the Sacred Valley of the Incas. Situated east of the Vilcabamba mountain range, Pisac features impressive terraces, ceremonial sites, and breathtaking views that make it a must-see stop on the route.

2. Ollantaytambo

Ollantaytambo (Quechua: Ullantay Tanpu) is both a town and an Inca archaeological site, located about 90 km northwest of Cusco in the province of Urubamba. During the Inca Empire, Pachacútec conquered this region, building the village and a ceremonial center. Later, it served as a stronghold for Manco Inca Yupanqui, a leader of Inca resistance against the Spanish conquest. Today, Ollantaytambo is the only Inca city in Peru that remains continuously inhabited.

3. Chinchero

Chinchero, located at 3,754 m.a.s.l. and 28 km from Cusco in the Urubamba province, is often called the “birthplace of the rainbow.” This town offers a rich combination of Inca archaeological remains, colonial architecture, and living Andean culture.

Its famous Sunday market, once based on traditional bartering between locals, is now a colorful attraction where visitors can find handmade textiles and crafts created in the pre-Columbian style. Chinchero is also an excellent place to experience traditional Andean weaving techniques.
